Burkeite occurs in continental evaporite deposits. At Searles Lake, California, USA, it is associated with gaylussite, trona, sulphohalite, borax and northupite. At the Konya Basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey, burkeite occurs with halite and trona (Dana).
