Fumeroles

Colimaite was approved as a new mineral species in 2007, and the only locality reported to date (August 2023) is the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Colima volcano, Colima volcanic complex, Jalisco, Mexico, colimaite occurs as needles 10 to 100 microns in length in sublimates of high-temperature fumaroles at a temperature of 450 to 600oC (Mindat). It has been found in association with native vanadium (AM 101.2783).
