Environments
Elasmochloite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2018 and to date (January 2024) reported only from the
type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the Arsenatnaya fumarole, Second scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption,
Tolbachik Volcanic field, Milkovsky District, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, elasmochloite was found associated with
tenorite, hematite,
langbeinite, aphthitalite,
krasheninnikovite and
johillerite. Elasmochloite occurs as lamellar crystals up to
0.005 × 0.07 × 0.1 mm3 in size, separate or combined into open-work clusters up to 0.3 mm across. It is
transparent and green with a vitreous lustre
(EJM 31.5.1025-1032).
