Ferrotaaffeite-2N'2S is a rare mineral, approved in 2011 and to date (September 2025) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu county, Chenzhou, Hunan, China, both magnesium-rich ferrotaaffeite-2N'2S and Fe2+-rich magnesiotaaffeite-2N'2S were found at the Xianghualing tin mine. The ore deposits occur around granite plutons and display obvious zoning in the products of mineralisation. Ferrotaaffeite-2N'2S and Fe2+-rich magnesiotaaffeite-2N'2S were found near the exocontact zone of a granite body and in carbonate rocks; they formed during the skarn stage. Associated minerals include ferronigerite-2N1S, cassiterite, liberite, pyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, galena, spinel and phlogopite (CM 50.21-29).
