Jasonsmithite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2019 nd to date (September 2025) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Foote Lithium Co. Mine, Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina, USA, jasonsmithite has been found in solution fractures and small vugs of partially oxidised granite-phosphate pegmatite by late-stage, low-temperature hydrothermal alteration. Associated minerals include eosphorite, hureaulite, jahnsite-(MnMnMn), kastningite, mangangordonite, metaswitzerite, nizamoffite, stewartite, variscite and whiteite-(CaMnMn) (HOM).
