Sedimentary environments

Lautarite occurs coating fractures or embedded in gypsum in nitrate deposits. Associated minerals include gypsum, brüggenite, dietzeite, nitratine, anhydrite, hydroboracite and halite (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, Pampa del Pique III, Oficina Lautaro, Taltal, Antofagasta Province, Antofagasta, Chile, lautarite occurs in sedimentary nitrate deposits as crystals coating fractures or embedded in gypsum bands (Dana).
