Localities

At the type locality, the Monteponi Mine, Iglesias, South Sardinia Province, Sardinia, Italy, monteponite forms a black coating over hemimorphite. The coating was composed of sharp octahedrons to less than 0.5 mm on edge (Mindat, Dana).

At Unnamed marble quarries, Tulul al Hammam, Siwaga, Lisdan-Siwaga Fault, Hashem region, Daba-Siwaqa complex, Transjordan Plateau, Amman Governorate, Jordan, monteponite was found in altered pyrometamorphic rocks (HOM).

At the Yana River Basin, Verkhoyansk District, Sakha, Russia, monteponite was found in sulphide ore associated with cadmium and otavite (HOM).
