Mosandrite is an alteration product of rinkite (Dana).

At Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada, mosandrite occurs in eudialyte-rich pegmatites, sodalite xenoliths and nepheline syenite (Dana).

In Greenland mosandrite occurs in sodalite syenite (Dana).

The type locality is Låven, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway.
