Localities

At the type locality, the Monument No. 2 mine, Monument No. 2 channel, Yazzie Mesa, Cane Valley Mining District, Apache County, Arizona, USA, navajoite occurs in the highly oxidised portion of a Colorado Plateau-type uranium-vanadium deposit, in a stream channel filled with conglomeratic and silty sandstone, impregnating the sandstone and forming seams in it and coatings on pebbles, and filling small fractures in clay lenses. It is thought to be an oxidation product of corvusite. Associated minerals include corvusite, tyuyamunite, rauvite, hewettite, steigerite and limonite. Only one of these, corvusite, has both V4+ and V5+, and the rest are fully oxidised (AM 40.207-212, HOM).

A the Gray Daun Mine, La Sal Creek Mining District, San Juan County, Utah, USA, navajoite has been found with montroseite and uraninite (Mindat photo).
