At the type locality, the Santa Catarina mine, Rancho Calvillo, Santa Rosa, Sierra de Santa Rosa, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, Mexico, paraguanajuatite occurs intergrown with guanajuatite in contact metamorhpic environments as well as in hydrothermal veins. Associated minerals include guanajuatite, bismuthinite and ferroselite (HOM).
