Localities

At the type locality, Mount Kourou Diakouma, Saraya, Tambacounda region, Senegal, senegalite occurs in the oxidised zone of a magnetite iron ore deposit. Associated minerals include augelite, crandallite, turquoise, variscite and wavellite (R&M 94.5.460-461, Mindat, HOM, AM 62.593-600).

Spain. Apart from Senegal, the only other country that currently (May 2023) has senegalite listed on Mindat is Brazil, with three known localities. The Jangada mine in Minas Gerais is perhaps the most noteworthy because yellow drusy senegalite crystals have been found in this deposit, which, like the occurrence in Senegal, is also an iron ore deposit. The other two localities are the Pirocaua deposit in Maranhão and the Maicuru alkaline complex in Pará, neither of which seems to have produced noteworthy specimens (R&M 94.5.460-461).
