Localities

At the type locality, Vasin-Myl'k Mt, Voron'i Tundry, Murmansk Oblast, Russia, tantite forms veinlets 0.5 mm long and 0.02 mm wide, and 0.04 to 0.05 mm lenticular segregations, as well as interstitial material in microlite crystal aggregates, in granitic pegmatites of the Kola peninsula. Associated minerals include stibiotantalite and holtite (AM 69.1193).

At the Animikie Red Ace pegmatite, Pine River pegmatites, Fern, Florence County, Wisconsin, USA, tantite occurs in the highly fractionated pegmatite associated with tantalite-(Mn), wodginite and elbaite (HOM).
