Thermonatrite is a water-soluble mineral found primarily in evaporite deposits usually associated with
trona and natron, or as a
surface deposit in arid regions. It also forms in volcanic fumaroles. At Borax Lake, California, USA,
thermonatrite is associated with halite.
Thermonatrite may originate as an alteration product of natrite.
