Topsøeite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2016 and to date (February 2024) confirmed only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, Hekla, Rangárþing ytra, Southern Region, Iceland, topsøeite was found as a fumarolic product after the 1991 eruption of Hekla. It occurs as up to 20 µm large square-prismatic crystals forming occasional stepped aggregates or veins up to 100 µm wide, in association with several other fluorides, hematite and opal (EJM 30.841-848).
