Localities

At the type locality, the Chuquicamata Mine, Chuquicamata District, Calama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta, Chile, ungemachite is formed rarely by the oxidation of pyrite in the arid climate, in veins and cavities in other massive iron sulphates. Associated minerals include clinoungemachite, jarosite, sideronatrite, metasideronatrite, metavoltine and fibroferrite (HOM).
