Sedimentary environments

Vanoxite is an incompletely characterised species ocurring in sedimentary uranium-vanadium deposits and as a replacement of fossil wood. Associated minerals include gypsum, carnotite, hewettite, pintadoite, tyuyamunite, pascoite and pyrite (HOM).

Localities

There are two co-type localities, the Jo Dandy Mine and the Bill Bryan claim, Wild Steer Canyon, both in Paradox Valley, Uravan Mining District, Montrose county, Colorado, USA. Here vanoxite crystals are rare and minute; it is commonly massive. Associated minerals include gypsum, carnotite, hewettite, pintadoite, tyuyamunite, pascoite and pyrite (AM 10.40-41, Mindat).
