Metamorphic environments

Arsenmarcobaldiite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2016 and to date (February 2024) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, Verzalla, Sant'Anna di Stazzema, Stazzema, Lucca Province, Tuscany, Italy, arsenmarcobaldiite was collected in a small prospect where baryte + pyrite lenses embedded in schist crop out, in an area where metamorphic rocks underlie non-metamorphic sedimentary formations.
Arsenmarcobaldiite was identified in a limited number of samples. The type material is represented by granular quartz layers embedded in pyrite-rich schist, with minor baryte, muscovite and sphalerite. Arsenmarcobaldiite occurs as interstitial anhedral grains, up to 0.5 mm in size, black in colour, with a metallic lustre and a black streak (EJM 31.1067–1077).
