Placer deposits

Athenite has been found in concentrates from gold washings, associated with arsenopalladinite and hematite (Mindat, HOM).

Localities

At the Type Locality, Itabira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, atheneite was found as a few grains in residual concentrates from gold washings; intergrowths with arsenopalladinite occur, and hematite inclusions are also present (AM 59.1330-1332). Other associated minerals include palladseite and isomertieite (HOM).
