Averievite was approved in 1995 but to date (March 2025) it has been reported only from the Tolbachik volcano.

Localities

At the type locality, the Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik volcano, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, averievite occurs as pseudohexagonal crystals, to 0.3 mm, in volcanic fumaroles, associated with piypite, alumoklyuchevskite, fedotovite, alarsite, nabokoite, tenorite, lammerite and langbeinite (HOM, Mindat).
