Environments
Chromatite is formed in an arid climate along fractures in
limestone and marl by
ascending ground water; the chromium is derived from underlying
bituminous phosphatic marl. Associated minerals include
gypsum, calcite,
aragonite, vaterite and
portlandite
(HOM).
Localities
At the type locality, Ma'ale Adumim, Quds Governorate, West Bank, Palestine, chromatite occurs in sedimentary
rock units associated with gypsum and
calcite
(AM 49.439, Mindat).
