Cohenite occurs in iron meteorites, also in terrestrial iron, in mafic volcanic rocks chemically reduced from the assimilation of graphite (Webmin). Associated minerals include iron, schreibersite, troilite and wüstite (HOM). Cohenite has been recorded in metallic particles in lunar rocks, probably of meteoric origin (Dana).

Localities

The type locality is the Magura meteorite, Slanica, Námestovo, Námestovo District, Žilina Region, Slovakia.
