Localities

At the type locality, the Somma-Vesuvius Complex, Campania, Italy, d’ansite-(Mn) was found as encrustations on a pyroclastic breccia in fumaroles; it was collected in May 1927 in a 1926 eruption fumarole with a temperature of about 350°C. D’ansite-(Mn) forms colourless translucent tristetrahedral crystals up to 0.2 mm on edge associated with halite and aphthitalite. It has a white streak and a vitreous lustre, and is not fluorescent when exposed to either long wave or short wave UV (AM 99.2438–2439).
