Davyne occurs in volcanic ejecta and leucite-rich lavas. Common associates include leucite, nepheline, orthoclase, garnet, vesuvianite and scapolite (Dana, mindat, HOM).

The type locality is Monte Somma, Somma-Vesuvius Complex, Naples, Campania, Italy.
