Environments
Elgoresyite is a new mineral, approved in 2020 and to date (May 2023) reported only from the type
locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the Suizhou meteorite, Xihe, Zengdu District, Suizhou, Hubei, China, elgoresyite was
found as a shock-induced melt vein of the chondrite
meteorite and is a high-pressure mineral that may
represent an intermediate phase at pressures characteristic for the existence of
ringwoodite and bridgmanite.
It is suggested that it could have formed in the cores of early solar system planetoids and could be a representative
mantle mineral of rocky bodies that had a higher Mg:Fe ratio than Earth or Mars
(AM107.778).
Elgoresyite was associated with xieite,
tuite, ringwoodite,
majorite, magnesiowüstite,
lingunite, hiroseite,
hemleyite, asimowite and
akimotoite
(Mindat).
