Felsőbányaite is found in the oxide zone of marcasitic ores; it may originate as a dehydration product of hydrobasaluminite (Mindat).

Localities

At the type locality, the Baia Sprie mine, Baia Sprie, Maramureș County, Romania, felsőbányaite is a rare product of oxidation of marcasite ores. Associated minerals include marcasite, stibnite, baryte and quartz (HOM).
