At the type locality, the Eastern flank of the Sierra de Maz, Villa Unión, Coronel Felipe Varela department, La Rioja
Province, Argentina, ferro-ferri-katophorite was found as xenocrysts up to 3 cm long and replacement rims
around aegirine–augite in
silicocarbonatite dykes cropping out. Ferro-ferri-katophorite is black and has vitreous lustre and a pale green
streak
(MM 87.2.324-330).
