Environments
Hydroxylhedyphane is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2018 and to date (January 2024) reported
only from the type locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the Långban Mine, Långban Ore District, Filipstad, Värmland County, Sweden,
hydroxylhedyphane has been discovered in a complexly deformed and metamorphosed submarine,
volcanogenic, massive sulphide deposit. It occurs as colourless prismatic crystals, up to 2.5 cm in length,
forming an oriented intergrowth with a
serpentine subgroup mineral, as fracture-fillings
cutting braunite and
hausmannite ore
(EJM 31.5.1015-1024, HOM).
