Localities

At the type locality, Smolník, Gelnica District, Košice Region, Slovakia, kornelite occurs as a weathering product in a pyrite mine, associated with voltaite and coquimbite (Mindat).

At the Copper Queen Mine, Queen Hill, Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA, kornelite is associated with coquimbite, römerite, copiapite, voltaite and rhomboclase (HOM).
