Metauranospinite occurs as a secondary mineral in uranium-bearing fluorite veins in sedimentary uranium deposits, and in late fractures in granite pegmatites (Mindat, HOM).

Localities

The type localityis the Sophia mine, Böckelsbach valley, Wittichen, Schenkenzell, Rottweil, Freiburg Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Alteration:

Metauranospinite is a dehydration product of uranospinite, as indicated by the prefix "meta". It rehydrates easily back to uranospinite (Dana, Webmin).
