Localities

The type locality, Vila Apacheta, Rafael Bustillo Province, Potosí, Bolivia, is a source of tin ore in Cretaceous (145 to 66 million years ago) calcareous sandstone. Rhodostannite occurs associated with stannite, of which it appears to be an alteration product, and pyrite (AM 54.1218, HOM).
