Coal deposits

Localities

At the type locality, the Tyllakh brown coal deposit, Lena River Basin, Bulun District, Polar Yakutia, Sakha, Russia, stepanovite occurs in thin veinlets in coal, associated with calcite, dolomite, whewellite and weddellite (HOM).
The stepanovite is produced by the interaction between oxalic acids from guano and copper sulphide minerals (CM 48.6.1329-1358).
