Tombstoneite is a new mineral, approved in 2021 and to date (November 2024) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, Grand Central mine, Contention-Grand Central Mine group, Tombstone Mining District, Cochise County, Arizona, USA, tombstoneite occurs in quartz matrix in association with jarosite and rodalquilarite. Tombstoneite crystals are green pseudohexagonal tablets, up to 100 μm across and 20 μm thick (MM 87.1.10-17).
