Environments
Tomiolloite is a new mineral, approved in 2021 and to date (December 2024) reported only from the type
locality.
Localities
At the type locality, the Moctezuma Mine, Moctezuma, Moctezuma Municipality, Sonora, Mexico, tomiolloite
forms roughly spherical clusters of crystals comprised of very thin, needle-like crystals (1 μm diameter, ~40 μm
length) around a core of small, stubbier, broken crystals. Tomiolloite is generally found growing on
tellurite or quartz. Significant
Te6+ substitution for Al3+ is observed
(AM 107.2167-2175).
