Localities

At the type locality, Har Ye'elim, Dead Sea, Southern District, Israel, ye'elimite is found in "cobbles" in a "pseudo-conglomerate"(the "cobbles" are fragments of high-temperature metamorphic mineral assemblages). The rock is approximately 40% larnite, 25% brownmillerite, 20% ellestadite and 15% ye'elimite. Crystals of ye'elimite normally range from 3 to 15 microns, but larger ones up to 60 microns have been observed. It was found in samples heated above about 900oC, and so it is considered to be in the sanidinite facies (AM 72.226-227).
Fluorapatite is also asssociated with ye'elimite (Mindat).
