Axelite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2017 and to date (December 2023) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Arsenatnaya fumarole, Second scoria cone, Northern Breakthrough, Great Fissure eruption, Tolbachik Volcanic field, Milkovsky District, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, axelite is associated with sylvite, halite, arsmirandite, bradaczekite, johillerite, tilasite, ericlaxmanite, lammerite, hematite, tenorite, cassiterite, pseudobrookite, aphthitalite group sulphates, anhydrite, fluoborite, sanidine and fluorophlogopite.
Axelite occurs as tabular, quadratic, rectangular or stronger distorted crystals up to 0.02 × 0.1 × 0.1 mm3, sometimes combined in interrupted crusts up to 0.4 mm across overgrowing sylvite. It is transparent, sky-blue, with a vitreous lustre (MM 87.1.109-117).
