At the type locality, the Gerstenegg-Sommerloch tunnel, Gerstenegg, Guttannen, Interlaken-Oberhasli, Bern, Switzerland, baylissite occurs as a secondary mineral in fractures in aplite-granite and granodiorite. Associated minerals include quartz, feldspar, grimselite, schröckingerite, calcite and monohydrocalcite (HOM, Dana).
