Chinleite-(Y) is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2016 and to date (October 2022) reported only from the type locality and another locality in the Red Canyon Mining District.

Localities

At the type locality, the Blue Lizard mine, Red Canyon Mining District, San Juan County, Utah, USA, chinleite-(Y) occurs as a secondary alteration phase. Chinleite-(Y) crystals are colourless, thin hexagonal prisms up to 0.3 mm long, typically intergrown in divergent sprays, bow-tie aggregates or subparallel intergrowths. (MM 81.909-916).
Associated minerals include natrojarosite, metauranospinite, johannite, hexahydrite and gypsum (Mindat).
