Hydrothermal environments

Cobaltpentlandite occurs with other sulphides and arsenides in hydrothermal deposits. Associated minerals include pyrite, marcasite, pyrrhotite, troilite, chalcopyrite, cubanite, bornite, chalcocite, digenite, linnaeite, siegenite, parkerite, pyrite variety bravoite, langisite and magnetite (HOM, Mindat).

At the Vauze Mine, Rouyn-Noranda TE, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, Canada, cobaltpentlandite occurs as fine intergrowths in grains of linnaeite, associated with chalcopyrite, sphalerite and pyrrhotite (AM 50.2107-2108).

The type locality is the Varislahti deposit, Outokumpu Cu-Co-Zn-Ni-Ag-Au ore field, North Karelia, Finland.
