Although edoylerite was approved in 1987, to date (February 2023) it has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Clear Creek claim, Goat Mountain, New Idria Mining District, San Benito county, California, USA, the mercury mineralisation is in hydrothermally altered serpentinite, and the list of identified mercury minerals includes cinnabar, elemental mercury, edgarbaileyite, metacinnabar, montroydite, eglestonite, calomel, edoylerite, wattersite, gianellaite, mosesite, deanesmithite and szymańskiite (CM 37.113-118).
Edoylerite formed as an alteration product of corroded cinnabar. Associated minerals include cinnabar, quartz, chalcedony, magnesite and deanesmithite (AM 79.1009-1010, Mindat).
