Jasrouxite is a relatively new mineral, approved in 2012 and to date (May 2023) reported only from the type
locality.
Localities
The type locality, Jas Roux, La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar, Gap, Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France, is a
thallium-rich sulphosalt deposit in a sedimentary series. Jasrouxite
belongs
to the early lead-containing stages of the
thallium-arsenic-antimony
period of mineralisation. It occurs in a silicified gangue, along with
smithite and late realgar.
Jarouxite
forms dark grey anhedral grains with metallic lustre, up to several millimeters in size, as well as aggregates of
grains which
range to more than 10 mm in diameter. Grains of jasrouxite are coated by a three-phase
myrmekite aggregate (an intergrowth of plagioclase feldspar and vermicular quartz), composed of
stibnite,
baumhauerite-boscardinite
and
smithite
(EJM 25.1031–1038, HOM).
