Localities

At the type locality, the Kamaishi mine, Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, kamaishilite occurs as grains about 0.1 mm across in vesuvianite skarn, associated with vesuvianite, "hydrograndite" (a discredited member of the garnet group), and small amounts of perovskite, calcite, magnetite and chalcopyrite. It is apparently an alteration product of vesuvianite (AM 67.855).
