The type locality for katoptrite is the Brattfors Mine, Nordmark Odal Field, Filipstad, Värmland County, Sweden, where it occurs in metamorphosed limestone associated with manganosite, magnetite and garnet (Mindat, HOM, AM 51.1494-1500).
