At the type locality, Mount Hvide Ryg north slope, Werner Bjerge Complex, Northeast Greenland National Park, Greenland, kochite occurs in nepheline syenite as lath-shaped to acicular crystals in aggregates up to 0.3 × 1.0 mm in size. Associated minerals are nepheline, alkali feldspar and låvenite. Kochite is transparent with a brownish colour and a vitreous lustre. It is brittle with a perfect cleavage and an uneven fracture (EJM 15.551-554).
