At the type locality, the Vuonnemiok River Valley, Murmansk Oblast, Russia, kostylevite occurs in an alkalic pegmatite, intergrown with umbite and wadeite, and associated with eudialyte, K-feldspar and aegirine (AM 69.810-815).
