At the type locality, the Vuonnemiok River Valley, Murmansk Oblast, Russia, umbite occurs in a pegmatite in the differentiated alkalic massif. Associated minerals include kostylevite, wadeite, eudialyte, K-feldspar and aegirine (HOM).
