Environments

Hydrothermal environments

Ottemannite occurs in zones of oxidation or secondary enrichment in hydrothermal tin deposits. Associated minerals include stannite, cassiterite, herzenbergite and berndtite (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, Cerro de Potosí, Potosí City, Potosí, Bolivia, Ottemannite occurs as small laths, commonly twinned, replacing stannite and replaced by cassiterite (AM 50.2107). Other associated minerals include herzenbergite and berndtite (Mindat).
