Localities

At the type locality, the Baringer Hill mine, Bluffton, Llano county, Texas, USA, rowlandite-(Y), a rare metamict yttrium silicate, occurs commonly in nine of the twelve rare-earth pegmatites in the district. Irregular masses up to 1 cm in size occur associated with gadolinite-(Y) and yttrialite-(Y) (for which this is also the type locality). The rowlandite-(Y) is either glassy, translucent, and bottle-green, or a vitreoous scarlet colour (AM 63.754-756).
