Although data on was first published in 1964, to date (February 2024) it has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Kitka River Valley, Kuusamo, North Ostrobothnia, Finland, sederholmite was found in penroseite clusters of a few millimeters in diameter, in calcite veins containing nickel selenides, in sills of albitite dolerite in schist, associated with low-grade uranium mineralisation. Associated minerals include wilkmanite, penroseite, clausthalite and calcite (HOM, Mindat).
