Although wilkmanite was first described prior to 1959, to date (July 2024) it has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Kitka River Valley, Kuusamo, North Ostrobothnia, Finland, wilkmanite is a primary phase and an alteration product of sederholmite, in albite dolerite sills that cut a schist formation, associated with low-grade uranium mineralisation. Associated minerals include sederholmite, penroseite, selenium, ferroselite, selenium-rich vaesite, cattierite and calcite (HOM).
