Shinarumpite is a new mineral, approved in 2022 and to date (August 2023) reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Scenic mine, Fry Mesa, White Canyon Mining District, San Juan County, Utah, USA, shinarumpite was found as a secondary phase on a granular quartz matrix; it is in an efflorescent crust assemblage, formed in underground adits, post-mining. Associated minerals include gypsum, deliensite, cobalt-rich rietveldite, scenicite, shumwayite and sulphur.
Shinarumpite crystals are transparent, yellow, blades or prisms, up to 1 mm in length (MM 87.348-355).
